Shakespeare’s Moon detail

Imagine sitting on a hill, overlooking the sea, watching the rise of the moon. The night is alive with the poetry of land, sea and sky.

How sweet the moonlight sleeps upon the bank
Here we sit and let the sounds of music
Creep in our ears: soft stillness and the night
Become the touches of sweet harmony.

William Shakespeare
The Merchant of Venice

The enchanted night provides peace for your soul.

Shakespeare’s Moon, emerged after I had worked on a series of miniature nightscapes. I made the fused nightscape panel in the fall and propped it on my window ledge where I saw it every day until spring came and with it the understanding that it was poetry that would complete the image. As I searched for the right words I was thrilled to rediscover the quote from the “Merchant of Venice” which seemed to perfectly reflect in words, what I was expressing in glass.
