HIDDEN LAKE NWT
- Fused, kiln fired glass panel with leaded stained glass
- 12” X 14”
The far north is not frozen and dead. It is a land of beauty and life. I stand atop an island in the middle of Hidden Lake. Where great swaths of rock spread between trees that have a tenacity that inspires living life to the fullest. Look across the water to the east and at the arc of sky above. Feel the immense open space and imagine the undiscovered country that lies between you and Hudson Bay, thousands of miles away. See country that is wild and free, where lichen and muskeg rule; feel the warmth of summer days, of endless sun that glints on pristine waters rippling to the rocks below.
Ever since I can remember I have longed to go to the far north. In 2002, two fantastic friends of mine, Barb Beaton and Gene Hugo made that dream come true. Barb and I began a canoe trip at the end of the highway, east of Yellowknife, and ended up, standing on an island in the middle of Hidden Lake. This small piece of art captures only a minute portion of the vast and glorious nature of those wild lands.
