CRYSTAL STAR CANDLEABRA detail 1

Picture yourself being able to sit under the stars whenever you wish. You are surrounded by the simple elegance of glowing candlelight sparkling on glass, as the tiny, glistening stars tinkle in the waft of the evening breeze. The perfect companions, food and beverages surround you and you can’t help but smile as you look up into the delightful candelabra.

The stars are signature pieces from my studio. All are hand cut, no two identical. I started making them because I cannot bear to see empty spots on the kiln shelf. This obsession comes from my seamstress mother who in lean years taught us how to use every inch of fabric, piece of paper or jar of paint to its ultimate advantage. When I opened the kiln the first time and saw the quirky little stars seeming to dance upon that shelf, I smiled. I love those stars as they bring joy to me and so many others. It is my favourite moment in every show when some little child brings me loonies or twoonies to buy a star, usually their first purchase of handmade art. That child always gets a special organza bag for their star, and we seriously discuss just where and how they plan to display it. Those stars can make the grumpiest curmudgeon smile. I am sitting under my own candelabra as I write; a reminder of August meteor showers when the stars are wild and free.
